Yerevan to Host High-Level International Conference on Better Regulation
An international conference on better regulation and regulatory impact assessment will take place at the initiation of the Armenian Ministry of Economy in Yerevan at the end of this year, bringing to town high-level speakers and participants.

Deputy Minister Karine Minasyan of the Armenian Ministry of Economy explains that better regulation also means better laws. "And better laws help save taxpayers' money, reduce bureaucracy and make the business environment more attractive for both local and foreign entrepreneurs. That is namely what the conference will concentrate on - how to achieve better regulation," Minasyan says.

The conference will include both local and international speakers - both experts and practicioners - who will share their experiences and best practice in the fields of regulatory impact assessment and possibilities of improving the legislative process on the whole.

The regulatory impact assessment team of the Ministry of Economy, organiser of the conference, has evaluated for about 300 new laws and decrees from the beginning of this year with the aim of determining whether they might have any impact in the fields of competition or small and medium enterprises.

The conference is organised under EU twinning project "Support to the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia: Regulatory Management / Standard Cost Model". The duration of the project is from February 1, 2010 until May 24, 2012. The project is funded by the European Union, the budget being 1,100,000 euros. The project objective is to develop a regulatory management programme that helps to make administrative practices more transparent and decrease the administrative burden in order to increase the attractiveness of Armenia for investors. The Member State partner of the project is HAUS Finnish Institute of Public Management.
